Artificial intelligence and automated quality control are among the key technological developments highlighted by Gruppo Bonetti at EXPO2026.
One of the featured technologies is the upgraded SELECTA PLUS, an AI-powered inspection and colour-sorting system. While the standard SELECTA provides dimensional inspection and colour sorting, the upgraded SELECTA PLUS adds thickness inspection and button-surface inspection.
The system uses AI-powered self-learning to simplify setup while supporting defect-statistics collection, consistent quality and high productivity. By combining several inspection functions, the technology is designed to provide manufacturers with more comprehensive control over finished-button quality.
Another development presented at the exhibition is an AI-powered camera system designed to replace traditional photocells and manual loading systems. The system automatically orients discs and buttons during feeding, including difficult-to-handle materials, with the assistance of artificial intelligence.
According to the EXPO2026 presentation, the technology can automate the loading process while also providing colour-quality pre-selection.
Bonetti is also presenting new long-life polishing drums featuring a Water-Saving System. The drums incorporate galvanized and painted steel construction for improved protection against oxidation, while the AUTOSET version features a touch panel with customizable programs.
The system is designed to reduce electricity consumption during washing through lower-speed operation and reduce water consumption through pre-installed programs, with savings of up to 800 litres per cycle stated in the EXPO News.
Together, these developments highlight the growing role of automation, AI-assisted inspection and resource efficiency in modern button manufacturing.
